Problems for Sizzla

Posted in Dancehall DJ's, Dancehall News on May 31, 2008 by D_Genius

One876Entertainment.com understands that Miguel Collins a.k.a Sizza Kalonji was sent back to the United States on Wednesday after being arrested in Madrid, Spain and held for the night in jail.

sizzla.jpg“Sizzla’s visa was rejected in Germany while sizzla made a break on his European tour, to play on Best of the Best in Miami. So this happened when he fly back to Europe, in Madrid-Spain, supposedly Sizzla knew nothing about his visa being canceled. So police arrested him at the airport.. he passed the night on the police station .. and today he was deported to the states, I think to Seattle.. ,” an email from Sissi Ameur, a concerned member of the European reggae community, said.

“The fire house band played a free show yesterday in Madrid but without the man. I got these information and for sure now all Sizzla shows are cancelled..,” the email concluded.

Several attempts were made to reach Sizzla’s publicist, Olimatta Taal, or any member of the artiste’s camp, but we were unsuccessful.

Here is an extract from the communiqué of the Sizzla’s European promoter:

Good Day All,

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this mail as it seems that all our work to get artist to be on side with the general principal of the Reggae Compassionate Act  (RCA)”may” have broken down, not from our side but from the side of what it seems to be right wing elements within the xxx community.

Where we were hoping to issue a statement this evening that is no longer possible.

Sizzla tour will not continue as a direct result of what is happening in Germany and in France, we sent him the request from David (in France) and he quite rightly has decided that it seems that some people want him crucified or guillotined in public and he must pay for their transport to witness it. he has signed an agreement already that was used against him in public, world media and most embassiningly in his home, OK he admits to making mistakes since it was signed but overall he has stuck to its principles as can be verified by the authorities in the Paris show and the Dutch shows the Vienna shows etc.

Sizzla feeds many people in his community and send many to school, provides housing and money also from them, when this is taken from them because people want their pound of flesh, I personally am afraid of the result. A very angry young artist is will return to Jamaica to his people and his community and I do not want to think anything negative but I am concerned. I think you should all think long and hard about what’s going on and the consequences of your actions.

WE HAVE MADE REAL PROGRESS IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO AND NOW THIS IS A SERIOUS SETBACK.

What is happening here is serious and if the German and French xxx community is responsible this will not be the last of it.

We will not issue any more statements nor sign them, you are free to do as you like and call it a victory for the xxx community against freedom speech and a very popular art form attended by thousands.

Now where do we go?

Where indeed.

Demarco Blazing his own Path

DeMarco – A Battle Savy Solider

Demarco_fallenstanding_soldiers.jpgThe haunting melody of Fallen Soldiers is still topping the charts while Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten breaking records in its rise to the top. And now, Sort Dem Out is a clear warning that DeMarco has become a dancehall star.

Twelve months ago, DeMarco was known more for his beats than his rhymes, but his collaboration with Star Kutt and subsequent synergy with Juke Boxx Productions has launched his career to a whole new level. The combined management team introduced the multi-talented artiste to the US based independent label, Koch. Koch boasts an eclectic list of acts but has a keen interest in urban reggae, signing acts like Sean Kingston, Foxy Brown and recently, DeMarco. The lucrative deal guarantees DeMarco world-wide distribution through global giant, Universal.

From an outside view, it may seem like an overnight success, but for DeMarco, the recognition is fair reward for years of dedicated effort. While living briefly in Baltimore and New York, DeMarco worked at odd jobs, struggling to earn money to buy equipment for his studio piece by piece building beats more for credit than cash. Before releasing his breakthrough hit, DeMarco collaborated with both hip hop and dancehall stars including Missy Elliots’ Soul Diggaz, Styles P of The Lox, Free from 106 and Park, Hot 97’s Jabba and Bounty Killer.

Gangsta for life facing time

Posted in Dancehall News on March 28, 2008 by D_Genius

movado.jpgThe self-proclaimed ‘Gangsta Fah Life’ artiste Mavado is now living the lifestyle as he is behind bars following his arrest last night on gun related charges.

The entertainer has been charged with two counts of shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm.

Mavado, 27, whose real name is David Brooks, was held when he showed up for questioning in connection with a shooting incident on July 27th last year on Mannings Hill Road in St. Andrew.

Head of the Major Investigation Task Force Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Greene said Mavado will remain in custody for at least another 24 hours

Today our Gangsta for Life, Mr Mavado aka David Brooks, will be brought up on gun charges, stemming from an arrest on Wednesday. It’s mad still how a lot of these “gangsters” art imitate their life, imitating their art … or some madness like that. Hopefully nothing too serious come out of it, next thing you know, the system might have him lock down and shoved in the prison where he’ll end up going from Gangster 4 Life to Prison inmate 4 Life. We’ll just have to wait and see, what takes place. Anywayyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caribbean Fashionweek 2008 Launched In The United Kingdom

Pulse_Supermodels_Nell%20Robinson_Nicole%20Gray_%26JaunelMckenzie.jpg

Caribbean Fashionweek, the region’s premier fashion event, has been launched in London. Pulse Investments Ltd recently took the opportunity of the annual staging of the Mayor of London’s Kulture to Couture fashion event to launch CFW 2008. Pulse had entered into a partnership with the Mayor’s office last year. This relationship saw a representative of the City of London attending Caribbean Fashionweek last year as an observer. Now plans are being finalised for British designers to visit CFW in June and for Caribbean designers to visit K2C in London in November. This year’s renewal of Caribbean Fashionweek takes place in Kingston, Jamaica, June 11-16 at the National Indoor Sports Centre as well as various other venues, including Villa Ronai and Strawberry Hill.

Pulse’s Chairman Kingsley Cooper and General Manager Romae Gordon, were special guests at Kulture to Couture and Pulse UK models were among the stars showing collections from participating designers. Cooper, a scheduled presenter at the event workshops, used the opportunity to meet some of Britain’s top young designers as well as media and stylists in attendance, a number of whom will visit Jamaica for CFW

Assassin prepares to conquer a new territory

Assassin_with%20whitegirlsphotos.jpg

Dancehall’s only deejay Assassin has been rampaging the dance halls of the Western world. In March, he has already done quite a few performances and has a very important one, coming up on Saturday, March 22.

“I’m heading to Tobago, and even though I’ve been in the business for five years and I’ve had hit songs over there, it’s going to be my first time performing in Trinidad and Tobago,” Assassin stated excitedly. “But one advantage I have of making a good and lasting first impression is that I’ve now been doing this for five years so I’m closer to perfecting my craft.”

Assassin’s appearance at Magnum’s Follow Di Arrow on Saturday, March 1, has left many talking of his “superb” performance. The artiste is pleased with this review as he has invested great time and energy into his performance skills and delivery. “I’ve spent time studying it (his craft) to improve it and I always want to make each performance better than my last,” he said.

The following Monday, March 3, he headed to Negril to entertain a different audience at Jam Fest/Spring Break 2008. “It was fun performing at Spring Break because it reminded me of performing in Europe. I have to bear in mind that our dialect isn’t easy to understand so I had to slow it down a little so that they could hear what I was saying,” Assassin said. He finished with a sly grin, “And it is true that what happens at Spring Break stays at Spring Break.”

Texas had the opportunity of seeing Assassin live and direct on Friday, March 7, as he unleashed hit after hit after hit. He described the experience as “ahhh murder!” as it’s been awhile since he has performed there. “Well, Texas hasn’t seen me in three years; it’s just a part of the world that we don’t visit often. So from start to finish they were with me ‘cause I’ve had quite a few hit songs since then,” Assassin pointed out.

Assassin’s next performance will be on Saturday, March 22 and will see him making his debut appearance in the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He will be joined by fellow cohorts Richie Spice and Gyptian, and they’ll combine their talents to rock the soca massive with the delectable beats of Reggae and Dancehall
